The 2017 political assassination attempt targeting the Republican Congressional Baseball Team in Alexandria, Virginia
The 2018 U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) response to the mass pipe bomb mailings by Cesar Sayoc, which targeted multiple Members of Congress

Each of these events demanded high-level briefings with city leadership, comprehensive after-action reviews, and the development and implementation of corrective action plans to enhance future preparedness.
In addition, he has successfully managed dozens of high-risk criminal barricade situations without a single fatality. These operations frequently involved armed homicide suspects, innocent hostages, and complex negotiations requiring seamless coordination among law enforcement agencies, District of Columbia services, and private and nonprofit sector partners.
A notable example of his crisis leadership was in 2015, when he commanded a 31-hour barricade involving a suspect wanted for the daylight shooting of a family member just two days earlier. Through meticulous planning and collaboration, the incident concluded without any additional loss of life, underscoring his ability to resolve life-threatening situations effectively and professionally.
Special Event Security & Management
Steven Sund has played a pivotal role in the security planning and execution of over 30 National Special Security Events (NSSEs), serving as the lead planner for more than 20 of these high-profile operations. He has also served on the United States Secret Service NSSE Executive Steering Committee. NSSE events require extensive coordination and the deployment of thousands of law enforcement and military personnel to ensure their successful and secure execution.
Sund is a sought-after lecturer on incident command, active threat response, special event management, and Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA). He has shared his expertise with the United States Secret Service (USSS), the Department of Defense (DoD), and a variety of private organizations, public agencies, and academic institutions.
